Ironman ATIS 4000 AB Inversion Table Review

The Ironman Atis 4000 AB Inversion Table system is Ironman’s (actually Paradigm Health and Wellness now) top of the line inversion table.  While we don’t like this one as much as the Teeter EP-950 or EP-550, there are several reasons we do like this machine and have rated it as #3 in our top inversion tables overall.

[learn_more caption="Advantages"][box type="info"]

  • Good table that lets you do everything from Ab core training workouts to inversion therapy
  • Easy to reach ankle locking system that is great for people who suffer from mobility issues
  • Good for people wanting Core Workouts AND who have limited mobility – having both functions is rare in an inversion table
  • Very comfortable back rest and ankle locks

[learn_more caption="Disadvantages"]

[box type="warning"]

  • Not UL 1647 tested / compliant – this is the main drawback to the table, and the reason is it not ranked number 1
  • Can be difficult to set up

Our Ironman ATIS 4000 Inversion Table Review

[tabs slidertype="top tabs"] [tabcontainer] [tabtext]Ease of Use[/tabtext] [tabtext]Features[/tabtext] [tabtext]Quality[/tabtext] [tabtext]Customer Reviews[/tabtext] [/tabcontainer] [tabcontent] [tab]The Ironman 4000 AB is one of the easier machines to use for two main reasons: the easy to reach ankle system, and the 10-position smart gear that allows you to lock yourself into 10 different inversion angles.  These two features are great, especially for those who suffer from back problems that limit their mobility and make it hard to bend over and lock your ankles in the inversion table. Inversion is smooth and reliable, as you would expect from a 110 pound machine!  Set up is not as easy as we would prefer, and you should expect to spend at least one hour setting things up.  One of the issues we have with the 4000 AB trainer (and it’s not really an issue, it’s more of just something you need to be aware of), is that it does not fold up for storage…and it takes up a lot of space – roughly as much as a medium sized treadmill would.  Of course, there are some advantages of having a table this big and sturdy, but be aware that it won’t work for people in tight spaces.[/tab] [tab]To put it simply, this Ironman is loaded.  The question we had was – how well do all the features work?  Here is a quick breakdown of what you get when purchasing the Ironman ATIS 4000:

  • Height’s allowed: Up to 6′ 6″
  • Max Weight: 320 lbs
  • Comforter’ ankle system with a ‘Ratchet Gear’ that is that is very easy and comfortable on your ankles.  Again, this feature is great for those who have a hard time bending over.  We found that basically all customers love this system and find it very easy to get in and out of the inversion table because of it.
  • Smart Gear locking system.  This allows you to lock yourself in 10 different inversion positions – which is much more than you would even get out of a Teeter.  While we love the concept and idea, we aren’t 100% sold.  If the system works, then it’s great – but what happens if/when the system doesn’t work?  Gear systems like can break down sometimes, and we have heard from some customers that their smart gear system didn’t work right out of the box.  However, more customers love it – so we’ll say that we like this as long as it works.  If it doesn’t, be sure to return the table to Paradigm ASAP, as you will be left with a basic inversion table that has zero locking capability without it (i.e. a table that is no good for core workouts).
  • Tubed steel frame, weighing in at a massive 110 pounds!
  • Safety handles to help you invert and come back to starting position
  • Larger than average foot platform
  • Inverting hand grips‘.  I really like these and think they are a great idea.  These are those bars at the back base of the inversion table, and they allow you to do enhanced stretching/traction therapy while hanging upside down.
  • Little holding cup for your cell phone, wallet, ect.  Personally, I think this is a waste of money…but that’s just my opinion – some people may like it.
  • 2 1/2″ backrest, foam covered – which customers find very comfortable

As you can see, the Ironman ATIS 4000 AB Inversion table is loaded with features, some which we really like.  However, there is one thing that you do not get with this table (and is the main reason why we won’t rank it above a Teeter), which we will discuss in the ‘Quality’ section below.[/tab] [tab]The build quality of the ATIS 4000 by Ironman seems to be very high quality.  The machine is heavy (very heavy at 110 lbs), and is make of steel tubing.  However, we have one main complaint with the table:

  • The Table IS NOT UL TESTED.  We really wish such testing were standard in the industry, but unfortunately it’s not – which makes it very difficult to say how sturdy the machine is.  Teeter states that there tables are the only ones that survived their endurance test – that the 4 other brands tested did not last even the equivalent of 2.5 years of use without complete failure.  We are currently trying to find out if Ironman was one of these ‘other brands’, and we will let you know as soon as we find out (i.e. as soon as Ironman gets back to us since Teeter said they didn’t want to talk bad about their competitors).

[/tab] [tab]Customers rate the Ironman ATIS 4000 Inversion therapy table with 4.2 / 5 stars at Amazon, with most people really liking the machine.  The complaints you will find most often are: the ankle holders hurt their feet a little bit (very common on ALL inversion tables unless you are using gravity boots), and the Smart Gear system can be buggy.[/tab] [/tabcontent] [/tabs]

Where to Buy The Ironman ATIS 4000 AB Inversion System

We recommend that you purchase the machine directly through amazon.com – you get great customer service and no hassle returns.  You don’t have the option to buy direct from the manufacturer, so be sure to keep all your reciepts and register the product promptly to ensure proper warranty handling if the need arises.
